Objective

Teaching Experience
2011 Art Teacher, Grades 5-8, Dwight-Englewood School, Summer Connections, Englewood, NJ. Instructor of Mixed Media, Painting and Drawing, Sketch It!, and Watercolors. Worked with students to develop their technical skills as well as creative and critical thinking skills in a variety of media.

2008-11 Artist-in-Residence, Ages 2-16, “Wilma’s Studio” at New York Presbyterian Hospital/ Columbia University Medical Center: Children's and Adolescent Oncology and Neurology Clinics, New York, NY. Work with patients and families to create various 2-D and 3-D art projects in clinic waiting areas. Teach children how to use materials, develop their ideas, and collaborate on group projects.

2001-11 Private Art Instructor, Ages 5 to Adult, Jersey City and Regional Area, NJ
Work with individuals and small groups on a variety of painting, drawing, digital art, and mixed media techniques. Assist with college portfolio preparation and development.

2011 Visiting Art Teacher, 4th Grade, Bedwell Elementary School, Bernardsville, NJ
Instructed students on paper cutting, folding, and layering technique for seasonal window hanging project. Assisted individual students with various aspects of the process.


2006 Visiting Lecturer and Workshop Instructor, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Lectured about portraiture as a source for healing. Facilitated collage workshop for developmentally disabled teenagers and their student mentors from “Art as a Source for Healing” class at RISD.

Discussed experience as a working artist. Conducted portfolio reviews and critiques of artwork.

2003 Painting Workshop Instructor, The Creative Center: Arts in Healing, New York, NY. Taught landscape painting workshop using mixed-media layering technique. Provided extensive background knowledge of landscape painting, techniques, and styles from throughout history.

2001 Internship: Art Instructorand Facilitator, Bradley Psychiatric Hospital, RI
Six week practicum for RISD course “Art as a Source for Healing and Wholeness”.
Worked with patients ages 7-11 on theme based projects including collaborative mosaics and drawings, sculptures made from recycled materials, 3-D mixed media magnets, and theme related costumes. Redesigned children’s lounge using artwork created by kids and RISD students.

Worked as assistant to professor for figure painting course in the Illustration Department. Mentored students individually on technical and conceptual skills.

1999 Volunteer: Artist-in-Residence, Perkins School for the Blind and Deaf, MA
Aided blind, deaf, and developmentally disabled students with art projects. Used various visual aids and tools available to communicate ideas and facilitate the making of art.

2009-11 Website Developer and Designer, NYC Regional Arts in Healthcare Group. Manage and design all website pages. Develop content for site including local and national resources, field related research, artist registry, and local events and opportunities.

2002-04 Art Director, Jo-Ann Magazine, SoHo Publishing Company, New York
Associate Art Director, Vogue Knitting International Magazine, Family Circle Home Crafts. Designed layouts and advertisements for magazines and approved layouts of junior designers.
Assisted with photo shoots and edited film for placement in magazines.

2003 Editorial Illustrator, Family Circle Easy Knitting Magazine, New York. Created illustrations for magazine column based on personal stories about the lives of knitters. Researched content of the articles to develop thoughtful and appropriate artwork.

2001 Mural Artist and Designer, Hasbro Children’s Hospital - The Tomorrow Fund Clinic, Providence, RI. Designed and painted magnetic mural of outer space for waiting room. Developed ongoing theme based magnet making project to enable children to create art and interact with planetary landscape.

Worked on various graphic design projects for Fine Art, Art History, and Children’s Books. Participated in meetings and discussions about the publication of future books.
