BIO
Rachel Deutsch received her B.F.A in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design in 2001 and her M.F.A in Painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2006. She has participated in several group exhibitions in New York and France including the NY RISD Biennial in 2008. She has received awards including the NYAA Walter Erlebacher Award and the Vasari Classic Artists' Prize, and was recently a Semi-finalist in the 2009 Outwin Boochever National Portrait Competition.
Rachel has also been involved in the Arts and Healthcare movement and has been an Artist-In-Residence at hospitals and cancer centers in New York City and Rhode Island. She has painted murals in various healthcare settings and homes, and was a guest lecturer at Rhode Island School of Design on the topic of Art and Healing. Through this work she uses the process of making art with and for patients and survivors as a tool for healing and self expression. Rachel currently lives and works in Jersey City, NJ.
