Rachel Deutsch is a writer-director whose heartfelt comedies blend surrealism with emotional honesty. Her work explores identity, loneliness, performance, and the quiet absurdity of being alive, often centering on women searching for connection in unexpected places. Her films have screened at festivals including NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and Hollywood Shorts Fest, where she has received awards such as Best Comedy/Dramedy Short and Best First-Time Filmmaker.
Rachel holds an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute Conservatory and is currently in post-production on her thesis film, Door Knocking. She earned a BFA in Drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she trained in clown and Commedia dell’arte, and later completed a producing program with NYU in London. She has also studied improv and storytelling at Upright Citizens Brigade in both New York and Los Angeles.
Rachel values inclusive, collaborative filmmaking that transforms deeply personal narratives into emotionally universal experiences. Originally from Oklahoma City, she dedicates her work to her late parents, whose lasting influence continue to shape the emotional core of her storytelling. She is currently based in Los Angeles with her partner.
